On Fitness for Me, and Possibly You?

This past Tuesday I paid Road Runner Sports a visit, and picked up a pair of Vibram FiveFingers®: Treksport. I've been putting off the 'FiveFinger' purchase for quite a while now—a close friend obtained a pair as soon as they debuted. The draw? They just makes so much sense.

A couple of years ago I graduated from the Golf Academy of America in San Diego. My first job out of the academy was at The Ranch at Laguna Beach (formerly Aliso Creek Inn & Golf Course). Rather than spend an exorbitant amount of money on gasoline, I spent 2-to-3 days of my workweek with my cousin - and founder of JiuJitSUP Apparel & Lifestyle Brand, James 'J.P.' Acevedo. He offered to put me up, or put up with me; one of the two.

My time spent with J.P. in Dana Point made a lasting impression on me. I would affectionately refer to the experience as The Monastery, because it evoked some reminiscence of when I lived with the Benedictine monks of St. Michael's Abbey, Farnborough, Hampshire, England. I learned a lot about myself at J.P.'s. We read, brainstormed, met new people, practiced Filipino Martial Arts (i.e. Eskrima), jogged, golfed, surfed, stand-up paddled, stretched, developed an effective fitness circuit, experimented with less conventional forms of exercise, attended Full Moon Drum Circles, and shared.

On This is Me, Loving You

I love people, and love writing. They are two of my passions. Are you interested in or deeply inspired by something: dance, photography, music, fine art, finance, fitness, food, service, travel, the outdoors? I'd be willing to bet that everyone is or has been interested in or deeply inspired by something at one point-in-time or another.

Life is a journey of self-discovery. We are often defined by what we do & think. In truth, we are far more than we sometimes perceive or intend—far more than our doing & thinking. But to convey the following idea, we are our interests; and so, I am an amateur blogger/writer, and you are what you are most passionate about.
If we look more closely at an activity—beyond its descriptor and enactment—we'll understand that it is a basic form of self-expression. It is a means by which to identify ourselves and broadcast that identity out into, and engage with, the world. It is how we connect on as intimate a level as most know how; a bit of a "This is who I truly am!" There are a divulgence and honesty to it.

Poetry: 'Self Portrait'

Today I thought I'd think about
...some things I'd like to do;
I think that if I think things out
...eventually they'll push through.
I know you think I think a lot,
...and though I know that's true,
...I think you'll see, to think like me
...will change your point-of-view!

Now granted, I'm enchanted
...by these thoughts I'm thinking now,
...but we'll get to doing all those things
...you'd like to do, somehow.

I know that time is of the essence,
...but I'd hate to rush perfection!
If you'll be so kind
...as to stop pressing me with plans,
...and to refrain from undermining
...my designs to understand,
...I just might find your desire to do,
...those things, that are required of you,
...inviting if provided with a bit more time to think!

Now...where were we?
